Refund & Returns Policy

At Dunn Blades, every knife is handmade, and many are commissioned to order. This policy explains when a return or refund is possible. It applies alongside your rights under South Africa’s Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (CPA) and does not limit those rights.

If you have any questions before buying — especially for a commissioned piece — please contact us first at philip@dunnblades.co.za.

Custom & Commissioned Blades
Commissioned and custom-made knives are produced specifically for you and cannot be returned, exchanged, or refunded once work has begun, except where the item is defective or damaged (see below).

Deposits paid on commissioned work are non-refundable, as they secure materials and bench time reserved for your order.

Under the CPA, the cooling-off return rights that apply to certain purchases generally do not apply to goods made to your specifications.

Ready-Made / In-Stock Knives
In-stock, ready-made knives may be returned within 14 days of delivery, provided the item is:

Unused and in the same condition in which you received it; In its original packaging and accompanied by a receipt or proof of purchase.
For safety and hygiene reasons, a knife that has been used, sharpened, carried, or otherwise handled beyond inspection cannot be returned.

Defective or Damaged Items
If your knife arrives defective or damaged, email us at philip@dunnblades.co.za within a reasonable period of receiving it. We’ll ask you to send the item back to us so we can assess it. Once assessed, we will repair, replace, or refund the item as appropriate.

This applies to commissioned blades as well — a manufacturing defect is always covered, in line with the implied quality warranty under the CPA.

Refunds
Once your returned item is received and inspected, we’ll email you to confirm receipt and to notify you whether your refund has been approved or rejected.

If approved, your refund will be processed to your original payment method within a reasonable number of business days.

Late or Missing Refunds
If you haven’t received an approved refund yet:

Check your bank account again.
Contact your card provider — it may take time before the refund is posted.
Contact your bank, as there is often processing time involved.
If you’ve done all of this and still have not received your refund, please contact us at philip@dunnblades.co.za.

Sale Items
Only regular-priced items may be refunded. Sale items cannot be refunded, unless they are defective or damaged.

Return Shipping
To return an item, post it to:

Dunn Blades
24 Parakeet Street, Sunnydale
Cape Town, Western Cape, 7975
South Africa

You are responsible for the cost of return shipping, and shipping costs are non-refundable. If a refund is issued, the original delivery cost (where applicable) may be deducted.

Because knives are valuable and sharp, we strongly recommend using a trackable, insured courier and ensuring the blade is securely and safely packaged. We cannot be held responsible for returned items that are lost or damaged in transit before they reach us.

Your Rights Under the Consumer Protection Act
Nothing in this policy limits your statutory rights under the CPA, including the right to receive goods that are of good quality, safe, and free of defects. Faulty goods are covered by the CPA’s implied warranty for a period of six months from delivery, during which you may return a defective item for repair, replacement, or refund.
